Breast Reduction (Reduction Mammoplasty)
Reduction Mammoplasty or breast reduction is a surgical procedure which addresses three issues, namely, reduction of the size of the breast, lift sagging breasts and reduce the size of the areola proportionately. The procedure also improves the shape of the breast and repositions the nipple areola complex.
Overtly large breasts in women often cause physical and emotional side effects that prevent them from enjoying everyday life to its fullest. They may experience back or shoulder pain, grooves on their shoulders from bra straps, difficulty exercising, and stress about clothing options.
Do you need breast reduction surgery?
Many patients opt for breast reduction surgery to achieve a greater sense of freedom in their physical activities, clothing styles, and to improve self-confidence. Some women choose breast reduction to alleviate chronic pain, including neck, back, and shoulder pain.
Ideal Candidates
Procedure
Usually, a breast reduction surgery involves two precise incisions. The first will be around the areola, the second under the nipple. Excess breast tissue, fat, and skin are removed along these incisions.
The nipples are placed at a higher position and the breasts will be reshaped. The areolas are also proportionately reduced to match the size of your smaller breasts.
Sometimes a liposuction may be done as well if the sides of the breasts also require reduction.
