Face Lift (Rhytidoplasty)
Rhytidoplasty or a face lift is a set of cosmetic procedures executed with surgical precision that removes wrinkles, sagging skin, or fatty deposits on the face and neck for a more youthful appearance.
Facial deflation causes thinning lips, deepening creases around the eyes and mouth and hollowed out cheeks making you look aged and worn out. Correcting a deflated face involves a well-planned combination of procedures including the use of fat injections and/or fillers to make you look youthfully smart.
High SMAS Lift
The high SMAS or high superficial muscular aponeurotic system face lift is a modern surgical technique that suspends the cheek mass securely, leaving the skin and subcutaneous mass attached to the SMAS without placing the skin under greater than normal tension. The advantage of this technique is that it is a powerful tool in addressing ageing and the descent of the mid cheek. Combined with neck rejuvenation and eyelid lift techniques, it consistently provides reproducible, natural long lasting results. This is a very safe technique to give the face a natural fresh appearance. This is the preferred technique done by Dr. Jayakumar.
MACS Lift (Short Scar Face Lift)
A short scar facelift or a MACS lift is an abbreviation for minimal access cranial suspension-lift, which is a mini lift with vertical suspension of the sagging tissue, through a shorter incision.
Do you need Face Lift?
Moreover, as we age, deep creases may form between the nose and mouth. The jawline may become slack and sag. Folds and fat deposits may appear around the neck. If you are interested in having a firmer, fresher appearance, a face lift maybe just what you need.
Usually, an incision is made in the hair near the temple and continued to the front of the ear, around the ear lobe, behind the ear and into the hair. Muscles and sagging tissues are tightened and excess skin removed while the remaining skin is repositioned to create a more youthful appearance. Sutures or metal clips will close the incision on the scalp. The location and extent of your skin laxity determines the type and size of face lift you will receive.
If you are considering getting a face lift done, we would recommend that you visit us for a personal consultation with your surgeon. This would give you an opportunity to discuss your aims and outcomes that you hope to achieve. The surgeon will explain the best options available, his/her recommendations and help you understand better the long-term benefits of this procedure.
Every patient’s need and expectation is different. Your surgeon will tell which surgical technique would be most appropriate for your needs and explain the treatment plan in detail. During this initial consultation you are expected to:
- Provide a detailed medical history including any previous surgical procedures; past and present medical conditions and a list of all medications or herbal supplements that you are currently taking.
- Have a complete examination of your face, including the skin and underlying bone.
- Discuss possible risks and complications of the procedure(s).
- Get an X-ray done possibly to determine the right procedure.
Following your initial consultation and decisions about the procedure(s) to be carried out, our surgical team will update you on pre-operative information, which tells you everything you should do and know before the procedure. Ideally, you may want to make arrangements for someone to help you for a day or two while you heal.
We will ensure that you remain comfortable throughout the entire procedure. Usually we use general anesthesia enabling you to sleep throughout the procedure. Of course, local anesthesia with intravenous sedation is also an option in some cases.
Following your surgeon’s instructions to the letter during the recovery process is very important. This will not only promote the healing process but will also help you adapt to your new physical appearance. Do attend all follow-up appointments so that your surgeon can assess your long-term results and answer any concerns or queries.
