Fat Grafting (Fat Injection)
Fat grafting, also referred to as fat transfer or fat injections, is the surgical process by which fat is transferred from one area of the body to another. The surgical goal is to improve or augment the area where the fat is injected.
When transferring fat, the advantage as compared to fillers is that you’re using autologous tissue (your own tissue) and not foreign material. Fat injection is useful in correcting contour deformities of the face like sunken cheeks or to plump up the lips. It is also an excellent procedure for augmenting breasts and buttocks.
Fat grafting, or autologous fat transfers, is a surgical reconstruction technique that adds fat to give the appearance of being “fuller.”
We will ensure that you remain comfortable throughout the entire procedure. Usually, the procedure is done under local anesthesia with intravenous sedation enabling you to sleep throughout the procedure. Of course, local anesthesia with intravenous sedation is also an option in some cases.
Following your surgeon’s instructions to the letter during the recovery process is very important. This will not only promote the healing process but will also help you adapt to your new physical appearance. Do attend all follow-up appointments so that your surgeon can assess your long-term results and answer any concerns or queries.
