Liposuction Post-Op Care

Liposuction is a body contouring procedure that allows you to reshape your body to get desired results. The procedure is done by a plastic surgeon who removes excess body fat through suction. Common areas treated by liposuction are hips, buttocks, thighs, arms, abdomen, and breasts.

If you are getting this treatment done or even considering it, these post-operative tips are recommended to heal faster and experience minimal discomfort.

Get some assistance for 48 hours: Ask a close family or friend to help you to get home after the surgery and help you through regular activities for two days.

Avoid any medicine that isn’t prescribed by the doctor: It is important to not consume any medicines that aren’t prescribed by your doctor as it could meddle with the recovery process. Also, it is advised to not apply ice packs or heating pads to your skin, especially the areas treated by liposuction.

Use post-surgery compression garments: These elastic garments help to speed up the healing process. To be worn for 3 to 6 days, don’t forget to remove them when you take a bath. Wash the garment to maintain hygiene.

Take extra care of your incisions: Before cleaning the skin treated by liposuction, wash your hands. Be gentle when washing your incisions and pat dry with a towel. Use new absorbent pads after every wash.

Indulge in a nutritious diet: Fruits, vegetables, natural carbohydrates, and proteins are a must in your meals. Drink a lot of water and fruit juices to prevent dehydration. Avoid foods with high levels of salt and fat as they slow down healing.

Follow these instructions for a smooth sailing recovery to get back to a regular routine within two weeks and heal completely within a month.
