Fat Grafting (Fat Injection)

Fat Grafting or Fat Injection, also referred to as fat transfer, is the surgical process by which fat is transferred from one area of the body to another. The surgical goal is to improve or augment the area where the fat is injected.

When transferring fat, the advantage as compared to fillers is that you’re using autologous tissue (your own tissue) and not foreign material. Fat injection is useful in correcting contour deformities of the face like sunken cheeks or to plump up the lips. It is also an excellent procedure for augmenting breasts and buttocks.

Fat grafting, or autologous fat transfers, is a surgical reconstruction technique that adds fat to give the appearance of being “fuller.”

Procedure

Fat is harvested from the abdomen or thighs or buttocks by liposuction. This is then processed to remove the blood and other unwanted tissues and then injected to the desired area. The procedure does not leave behind any scars.
